RIS logga

The Swedish National Inventory of Forests (RIS) is a nationwide inventory of forests and soils in Sweden.

RIS is composed of the National Forest Inventory (NFI) and the Forest Soil Inventory (MI).

All land cover types are included, with an emphasis on forest land.

RIS combines a long-term perspective with issues of current importance. The NFI was established in 1923, whilst the MI commenced in 1961. Today, RIS covers everything from forest and soil quality to biodiversity monitoring and assessment of forest and soil carbon stores.

RIS contributes to the Official Statistics of Sweden.
